Remembering Sophie: Image

Dianne Sophie Cowell (81) passed away in Soldotna, AK on August 3, 2022 comforted in her final moments by three of her children. Starting her life as Dianne Sophie Fisher, she was born the second of ten children on January 23, 1941 in Detroit, MI. She attended school at T.W. Ferry school on Mackinac Island, Holy Child in Harbor Springs, MI and graduated from Brown City High School in 1959. She married her husband of 34 years, Reuben Cowell Sr., on June 25, 1960. It was on Mackinac Island, MI where they began their marriage and started their family of seven children. In June of 1976 they relocated to Fairbanks, AK, calling it home until 1991, when Dianne and Reuben decided to settle in Yelm, WA. Here they remained together until Reuben's death in 1995. Dianne spent the last 27 years of her life traveling around the country, visiting her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family, the many who were blessed to be seen as family, and her many beloved friends.

Dianne touched many lives through her work in the churches she attended in Alaska, Washington, and Michigan. Her passions included teaching, sewing, cooking, baking, crafting, crocheting, knitting and leaving a legacy to her kids, grandchildren, and anyone who benefited from her lessons or talents. Dianne did not know the meaning of a stranger and saw life itself as the greatest adventure.

She was deeply loved, will be greatly missed, and her impact will be forever felt.
